We specialise in providing motor trade, commercial landlord and business insurance policies to sole traders, start up and SME’s. Whether your business is run on a full or part time basis we’ll happily be able to assist you, recommending the correct protection required to meet your current business needs.
The minimum insurance requirement would be a road risk policy. Making sure you are protected when driving vehicles related to business activity. Further policy additions can be added in the form of public liability, breakdown, and tools in transit to provide a more comprehensive cover depending on the needs of your business. For more established motor trade businesses, often with 3 years of trading history and operating out of a commercial premise a motor trade combined policy could be a way forward. This policy type combines the minimum required road risk policies with other business insurance policies including buildings, stock, liability, tools and equipment into one policy.
When operating within the UK the only insurance policy a small business legally requires is Employers' Insurance. This policy is there to help protect your business should an employee make a claim of illness or injury due to work conducted on behalf of the business.
There are a lot of different types of insurance policies available to protect different aspects of business which can be influenced by the nature and size of your business. We recommend most sole traders and SME owners look into the following policies as a minimum:
  • Public Liability Insurance – Recommend for sole traders and SMEs who interact with the public. The policy offers protection against claims made by the public in relation to injury or property damage due to your business activity. You’ll find in some industries having this type of liability insurance is a contractual requirement.
  • Professional indemnity insurance – Recommend for businesses or individuals offering a professional service, such as financial advisors, accountants, and legal professionals. It offers protection from claims made against you by clients who have suffered financial loss as a result of your advice and guidance.
  • Employer Liability Insurance – Legally required for anyone who employs or hires staff to carry out work on their behalf. Covers protect the policyholder from claims related to injury or ill health sustained through work conducted on behalf of the policyholder.
  • Business Property Insurance – If your business runs out of commercial premises then property insurance is required to protect the building, equipment and stock from such events as fire, theft and flood. If you rent your commercial property, we advise you to check with your commercial landlord to clarify who is responsible for insurance on the premises in which you operate.
All policy documents are received via email within 3 working days of the policy start date. We can also distribute the documents through recorded delivery if requested. We make sure you have received a cover note on or before your start date, to give you peace of mind that your insurance is valid.
Our renewal process is carried out in person and over the phone. This is a more personable way in which we look conduct business.  30 days from expiry we’ll contact you to highlight the fact your policy is due to expire. At this point, we'll provide you with our best renewal price based on your current policy information. Here, we can discuss your current policy and see if any changes are required to align with your current business needs. If this is the case, we'll go back out to the market to provide you with an updated policy quotation.
